NAVIGATING THE SYSTEMS TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE CHILD WITH SPECIAL NEEDS AND THEIR FAMILY
Working with families for more than thirty years has given Ms. Dennis an insight into the dynamics of families of children with special needs. If we look at the needs of families from an ecological perspective, we can meet the needs of the entire family. Research often addresses the needs of low-income families of children with special needs. However, the reality is that all families of children with special needs, regardless of income, need access to any number of different systems for the children with special needs as well as for the siblings of children with special needs. This can often be overwhelming, because the systems and the resources they provide are many, and the services that they furnish often overlap.
NAVIGATING THE SYSTEMS includes but is not limited to the following systems: Education, Health, physical and mental wellness; Social Services, Recreation, Religious, spiritual; Childcare, Family, Friends, Transportation.
